When we first embarked on our modern homesteading journey, it all began with Rabbits. Our adventure started after winning six rabbits from the **Rockwall High School FFA Auction**. Initially meant for stew meat, my daughters were determined to save them. And just like that, our little family of rabbits grew to thirteen! 🐇❤️ (Keep in mind we were still living in the HOA Neighborhood when we first brought them home)
We invested a lot into these rabbits, even taking the step to have them neutered and spayed, with one needing a leg removal. Special Thank you to VCA Vet Clinic in Rockwall for being kind and caring for our Rabbits.

After moving to Little Leaf Big Bear Farm, it was heartwarming to see my teens step up and take on the responsibilities of feeding, watering, and cleaning the rabbits’ sanctuary. This experience not only brought them closer to nature but also provided them with an opportunity to heal after a challenging year.

However, our journey took a tragic turn when our neighbor’s dog dug into the sanctuary, leaving us with a heartbreaking scene. After the incident came the Owls, our neighbor’s cat, and our dogs wanted to eat/play with the rabbits. We quickly realized that rabbits might not be our calling towards modern homesteading.
FFA stands for Future Farmers of America, an organization that helps high school students develop leadership and career skills. FFA is a key part of agricultural education programs in many schools. I encourage you to check out your local High School FFA auctions.
Be sure to check out your local High School FFA Events. You will find healthy meat to stock in the deep freezer or a new pet. We also scored two fantastic student welding projects: an electric burnt-designed bar and a badass fire pit. The proceeds from these auctions will fund student scholarships or pay for projects for future auctions.
