After months of anticipation, the last box was finally unpacked, and just when I thought I could relax, out slithered a free-range grass snake from the back of a mirror in my bedroom! Talk about a wake-up call. It was clear that we were definitely not in an HOA neighborhood anymore. This was the beginning of our journey into modern homesteading, and it felt like a fitting introduction to the wild adventures that lay ahead.
Embracing a New Lifestyle
The first step toward embracing a modern homestead for our family has been a realization: the lifestyle we once knew in the fast-paced modern world just wasn’t for us. The daily grind, the drama, and the constant hustle were not the friends we wanted to keep. Instead, we yearned for a simpler life, one where we could connect with nature and focus on what truly mattered.
“Here are a few photos of my husband and me as we finalized the sale of our home, capturing what we once believed was the ideal lifestyle.”God helped us envision a different path for our lives- a place where we can truly find peace and breathe freely once again.”

Finding Our Path
Even now, we’re still figuring out what modern homesteading looks like for us. Transitioning from a life of dining out and relying on Uber Eats to a more sustainable lifestyle hasn’t been easy. Our new home, with its open space concept and quirky features—like a bedroom without a door and a studio workshop design—has presented unique challenges.

We started our journey with a rabbit sanctuary, and nature took its course from there. Soon after, we established a small free-range starter flock with ducks, which added another layer of joy and responsibility to our homestead. However, we eventually had to close for two years to regroup and learn from our experiences. Those lessons really helped us shape our approach to homesteading and understand how to care for animals and manage our land.
Now, as we have reopened, we’re focused on completing our fowl farm setup. This has become our priority, and we’re excited about bringing everything together. Once we have that in place, we hope to start a garden soon. We’re also faced with the task of managing our land. With four acres of overgrown trees and weeds, it’s a big job. Clearing the land will not only make it more manageable but will also open up space for gardens, animal habitats, and more. Each day brings new challenges, but we’re learning to appreciate the process and the growth that comes with it.

The Journey Ahead
As we navigate this new lifestyle, we’re learning to embrace the small victories and tackle unexpected surprises, like the snake in our bedroom. Each challenge we face is an opportunity for growth and learning. We are committed to making this homestead not just a place to live but a true home.
Our journey into modern homesteading is just beginning, and while it hasn’t been easy, it’s filled with excitement and discovery. We’re trusting that God will continue to show us the way as we redefine our lives and what it means to be a family in this modern age. Join us as we share our experiences and lessons learned on this path toward living a more grounded life.
